March Loots – 2015

Despite the 6 months have that passed since I was in Japan, I still feel as if it wasn’t all that long ago. Since then I have bought some manga here and there, but I had no idea just how behind I really was on the latest releases.

Two packages arrived this month, both from CD Japan, with a hefty amount of manga in each. The first and biggest package got roughed up a bit, but unlike figure boxes, books can’t be crushed so I am not worried. The right image shows the entire pile that I ordered. I didn’t plan to purchase this many at once, but due to one certain book, it became more economical to order more in order to divide up the shipping cost.

ToLove-Ru Darkness Artbook – Venus
Ane Log Vol. 2 [Limited Edition], 5, 6 [Limited Edition], 7 [Limited Edition]
12 Shokugeki no Souma Vol. 11 [Limited Edition], 12
3 Kyou no Kerberos Vol. 3
2 IS: Sugar & Honey Vol. 2
2 Toaru Nichijou no Index-san Vol. 2
2 Shinmai Maou no Testament: Arashi Vol. 2
7 Minamoto Monogatari Vol. 7
A 4 Maou na ano Ko to Murabito A Vol. 4
3 Maou-sama Chotto sore Tote!! Vol. 3
5 Masamune-kun no Revenge Vol. 5

So the one certain book that I mentioned was this, ToLove-Ru Darkness’s Artbook Venus. While a single volume of manga adds a bit of weigh, artbooks like this one dramatically increased the shipping cost. I never expected to buy this actually. The artbook Venus was originally released in 2012, and now it is either sold out or sold at a premium price. I stumbled upon it being in stocked, and I actually contemplated whether or not to purchase it. After scavenging some info, it appears to have a good amount of new content and worth the money.

As for the artbook itself, I haven’t gone through every page yet, but I’m liking what I have seen so far. The artbook comes with a plastic outer casing that has semi-transparent prints on it. When you slide out the book from the casing, you remove a layer of clothing as you can see in the right image. Then, if you take off the book jacket itself, you reveal the bare illustrations on the covers of the book. Oh yeah, this applies to the back side too, by the way. Inside the artbook, the first few pages played some more with transparent pages and layering idea. Quite awesome.

So in Japan, I bought Vol. 1 – 4 of this series. And…I didn’t know that it was an ongoing series, let alone the limited editions. By the time I found out, the series was already at volume 7. I had to buy the ones I was missing and also re-buy volume 2 for the limited edition’s drama CD. Sadly, the limited edition for volume 5 was long sold out, so I have no choice but to settle for the regular edition. Ah, how ignorant of me to think that this wasn’t a long-lasting series. Perhaps I deserve it.

With the exception of Shokugeki no Souma and Minamoto Monogatari, I haven’t even read through the first volume of these books. Hopefully, I have caught up on the latest releases for all the manga I am following and won’t have to make another big order of books for a while.
