The Promised 24th Birthday

Years and years ago, during my high school days, I promised myself that by the age of 24, I will be living in Japan. I just turned 24.

It was a wish that came half true at best. I may be currently present in Japan, however I am far from having settled down or even know for how much longer I can continue to stay in Japan. In addition, I am unable to live freely, constrained by many things. I am here but not here. Never had I thought my life would travel down this path.

As for my birthday itself, the day wasn’t how I wished it was. I wanted to spend at least the early morning out and about alone, if not the entire day. But things came up. The best I could do, was to buy myself a small dessert in place of a cake while indulging the darkness of night.

Much like my 14th or 16th birthday, 24 was a number I wanted to be special. But of course and of course, nothing happened. An empty promise, an empty birthday. But perhaps, one day…

23rd Birthday

Hey, today was my 23rd birthday.
I unintentionally woke up a little earlier than usual, like as if I was a kid on Christmas morning. While in bed, I checked my phone.

June 8th.

No messages.

I glanced over to my desks, not expecting anything unusual to be there but desiring so.

Nothing.

I took a deep breath and sank further into my bed. I have a habit of not getting out of bed immediately upon waking up, so this is normal. I dozed off again until I actually got out of bed a little later. -Continue Reading-

Happy Chinese New Year?

I am told by my parents that today, February 8th, is Chinese New Year. However, I don’t feel anything. The Chinese New Year is determined by the lunisolar calendar and so the date of Chinese New Year changes every year. I don’t know how to use or read a Chinese calendar and thus I can’t determine when Chinese New Year is without somebody telling me. Even when I am told that today is Chinese New Year, I can’t believe it. Today is the start of a new year, a new beginning… no. 2016 started a month ago on January 1st.

When a new year starts is arbitrary. At what point in planet Earth’s orbit around the Sun do we consider the beginning and the end? The lunisolar calendar even takes the phases of the Moon into account. There is no right or wrong, just different. In my case, the system that I pay attention to is the Georgian calendar. So for me, new years already passed. I can’t feel the desire for celebration and the excitement of a new beginning. To be brutally honest, I don’t identify with this culture.

Happy New Years for those who will be celebrating. As for me, today is the day I awkwardly accept money from people.

2016: A New Beginning

Happy New Year, everyone! 2016. Every year, I glance at the new number and think to myself, “wow, what a futuristic number”. In fact, in just 5 years, we will be in 2021. To me, the future is now. And the now is already in the past. I have been playing catch up for a long time on this blog, and I still have yet caught up. I want my 2016 to be different. Completing new tasks while conquering the old, and enjoying everything in between. Can I do it? I am not thinking about how I could fail. I am thinking about how to succeed.

Let’s have a wonderful year.
あけましておめでとう!2016年もよろしくお願いします。

Happy New Year & 4th Anniversary (Giveaway Ended)

Happy New Year & 4th Anniversary! It is hard to think that I have been blogging for 4 entire years. Although for the past couple years the site has been pretty quiet in terms of comments and reader interaction, there hasn’t been a single dead month with no updates. That’s something I’m proud of, and this site will continue to remain active for the foreseeable future.

I’ve always wanted to celebrate my blog’s anniversary, and this year I could finally do so for the first time with a giveaway. Before getting into the details, I need to note that I can send physical items to US only. You may enter if you are international, but the only prize you can get is a $5 gift.

Merry Christmas! – 2013

Merry Christmas everyone! How are you spending your holiday season? Over here, it was a white Christmas and there were lots of decorations and events happening. I probably died a few times in the events, but it was all worth it because I got some rare drops. Continue Reading!

Happy 20th Birthday to Me

June 8th was my birthday. I’m 20 now; I have hit my twenties. I don’t know what to say, only that it feels incredibly awkward. In Japan, 20 is the age where you are considered a real adult, and I think there is even a special ceremonial day for it. It is also the age where one can legally drink alcohol in Japan. Of course, I have no plans to ever start drinking. I just drank coffee for the first time the other day and my reaction was “blah”.

So on my birthday, nothing much special happened. A friend accompanied me to eat sushi for dinner, which was rushed since I had to leave, then I had a second dinner, and that was about it. No cake, no gifts, no party, a day like any other. I was really looking forward to the sushi dinner and the latest episode of Kakumeiki Valvrave, but the former was rushed and the latter was released a day later than usual. I also would have liked some time to play Tenshin Ranman (since Chitose Sana shares my same birthday), but that didn’t happen.

I would like to use this chance to note that I hate the Happy Birthday song. It’s cheesy, dumb, and as negative as this is, I usually don’t have “happy” birthdays. And oh, I would have had a picture for this post, but I forgot to snap a picture of the sushi we were eating. >.<;;

Merry Christmas! – 2012

Merry Christmas everybody! Hope that you all have had some time to relax during this holiday season. Once again, I was not able to celebrate Christmas properly, due to a lack of income. Much like before, I find myself spending the holidays alone again.

On Christmas Eve, I didn’t do much but lay in my bed reading manga, watching a bit of anime, and catching up on some eroge. On the morning of Christmas, since I had no presents for myself nor presents for other people, I decided to open some figures that were still boxed up. Continue Reading!!

Happy Birthday To Me (& 千歳佐奈)!

Happy birthday to me! I’m now 19! It’s a little hard to believe that I’m now 19. It feels like not too long ago I was 16. In fact, I don’t even remember myself being 17. I’m confident that this kind of thing will repeat if I don’t do something about it. It has made me realize that each and every year is one to be cherished.

On the morning of my birthday, I went out to the arcades with a couple friends and played the Gundam: Senjou no Kizuna battle simulator game. I played about 6 games before it’s time to head back and pack for tomorrow. Later in the day, there was a farewell party, after which my roommate left and I saw him off. Continue Reading!!

Sorry that I couldn’t do much to celebrate. At the very least, I thought that I should make a short post about it. Continue Reading!
