A Room in Japan – 2017 (Chiba)

My life in Japan was by no means stable, especially during my initial arrival when I slept at several different places within the span of a couple weeks. Today, I will show you my room in the first apartment that I lived at for a decent length of time, from October 2016 until March 2017. Sadly, as the place did not belong to me, I only took photos of the room I stayed at and not of the entire apartment.

First, here is the main view of my space. The shape of the room is a long rectangle, with a north facing window at one end.
I only had minimal decorations up as I expected this place to be a temporary stay, though the “temporary” ended up a little longer than I had imagined.

Room at Parent’s Home – 2016 (Final)

This is the final look at what was my room at my parent’s place. We don’t own the house, and not sure if I have mentioned before, but to be honest, I hate the structure and build of this house, including this room. I was happy to leave this crappy space as I prepared to venture off to Japan. Once I leave, it will no longer be my room but instead as a spare room for my little brother. This is much like the case for when I headed off to college, except that this time around, I won’t be returning to visit any time soon. So once again, I wanted to rearrange the room to fit my brother’s needs.

Room at Parent’s Home – 2015

Finally, my 4 years of college ends and now I must move back to my old room at my parent’s place in the bay area. Prior to moving back in, I went through a great deal of effort to renew the interiors of the room, the process of which you can see over here in this page.

Room Makeover (Bay Area) – 2015

In the summer of 2015, I have finally graduated from university. The next thing for me was moving back into my parent’s house. My room there doesn’t really feel like mine anymore, as I have been absent from it for the last 4 years, only using the place as storage and for sleep whenever I visit. During my time in university, I have learned a number of things about me, about my family, and about people. Long story short, my room as it was, is an unacceptable living environment. Prior to moving back, I took it upon myself as a designer to update and makeover the room.

Room During Apartment #2 (Davis – 2015)

Upon coming back from my trip to Japan in summer of 2014, I returned to this apartment where I spent one final year living in Davis. My previous housemates had moved on to face other parts of life, so this year I had two brand new housemates that I had arranged ahead of time. They were really good and quiet people, so the year went by without any trouble. I hope that I was a good housemate to them too. The state of the apartment in the photos below were as of July 2015, one month before I leave this city. You can compare how my space in the living room looked like one year prior in 2014 and how the apartment in general have changed since 2013.

Room During Apartment #2 (Davis) – 2014

It has been almost a year since I lived in this apartment. To this day, I feel grateful that my roommate saved me from what could have been more treacherous years of living with problematic people. However, my roommate is graduating and will be moving out to face life. Meanwhile, I still have another year here. Because of my roommate moving out, some changes had to be made. I put up my room for rent, and moved my stuff out into the living room space where my friend used to be.

After a long and treacherous year, I have moved on to live at a new apartment with my friend that I met as my roommate during my first trip to Japan in 2012. I say “new” apartment, but my roommate has been living here for a couple years now, and I joined in to take the place of someone who had moved out.

Room at Parent’s House – 2013

With a bunch of my stuff moved to my 2nd apartment, I felt that it was necessary to move all the furniture around the room for a more suitable arrangement. Everything within a room interacts with one another, resulting in a certain function and feel for the room. With the key pieces removed in addition to me not being there 90% of the time, the previous design broke down. And so, here is how my room looked like in 2013.

You can view all of my rooms up to the present in the page linked below.

Room During Apartment #1 (Davis – 2012)

For a part of 2012 and half of 2013, this is the apartment where I will be living together with friends in. Initially, I was very excited to live here, but I soon realized some shortcomings that unfortunately, I have done all that I possibly can to address but to no avail. In this post, I’m showing you photos of the place, which looks fantastic, and that is why I chose to live here. However, you wouldn’t be able to see the problems that I face here. I will touch on those issues at the end of the post for those who are curious, so let’s get this tour started.

My Room At Home – 2012

These photos were taken on September 3rd, a couple days before I move to a new apartment near my university. Now that I’m gone, the room doesn’t look like this anymore, as I took a lot of stuff with me. But this was how it looked like when I was there.
