November was a long month, by the end of which my new life has more or less settled into a routine. Around the middle of the month, I felt disappointed that I still haven’t been able to finish all of my hobby backlog, to allow myself to move on and commit to practicing new skills. In between work, sleep, cooking and eating, and other life activities, very little time is left for me to actually focus on my hobbies. However, I have already decided a while back to take things at my natural pace. While I still haven’t finished enough to move on, looking back at what I did the past few months, I did finish a considerable amount. Over half of my backlog has been cleared. My own guess is that I am 70% of the way through, with manga mostly done and games being the heaviest obstacle left.
The first thing I did this month was to blow my very first full paycheck. Not all of it, mind you. Just half. In the past year, I had to endure through not buying many things, from hobby to leisure to even living essentials. But now, literally, I can afford them. On the 3rd, I went shopping in Akihabara, buying models, a figure, some cards, and some other stuff. It felt good going on a shopping spree and I felt like myself again, reminded of my first time in Japan. My shopping didn’t end there. Online, I ordered a portable mattress, desk lamp, hugging pillow, among other things I needed.
It took me a while to decide on a dakimakura cover, which later arrived on the 13th. The pillow that I bought for it was an incredibly expensive but high quality one, full size and amazingly fluffy. My past couple hugging pillows were cheap and not designed specifically for dakimakura covers. Now my worry is how to keep them nice and clean.
4th – I invited Lettuce over and treated him, along with my housemates, to boxes of pizza for dinner. It has been over a year since I had real pizza. Regarding card games, I have decided that I won’t play Yugioh as a game, but instead treat it as a collectible hobby. Cardfight Vanguard, on the other hand, is much more easy to learn and play. I traded my friend’s set of Yugioh cards for Vanguard and taught him how to play. We had more fun playing Vanguard than Yugioh.
10~11th – talked with my little brother. I had just finished reading Accel World vol.6, which I finished in less than 2 weeks after starting on the 1st, so I told him about the story in vol.6. We also talked about other things and he gave me advice on how to deal with people problems.
14th – I have read halfway into vol.7 of Accel World, and it has me hooked. Couldn’t wait, I told my brother about the first third of the book. He had also just watched SAO’s movie, Ordinal Scale, and so I asked about his thoughts and impressions. The next day, I finished Accel World vol.7. The arc doesn’t end there and I wanted to tell my brother about the story in whole, so I waited until I read up to where the arc ends. I realized that recently, I have been reading all the time. On top of Accel World, I am also reading the Monogatari series, finishing Nekomonogatari Black & White this month. I want to find time for other activities too.
I finished vol.8 of Accel World on the 21st and vol.9 on the 28th. After several volumes, the arc finally wraps up. Now need to organize time to chat with my brother.
This month, I tried to get in contact with some old friends. On the 14th, I got in contact with Ry by a miracle. The reason being that he has moved to Taiwan for work, something I had no idea about. He seems to have it good. On the 18th, I got in contact with Rafflima. He is still searching for a way to his future like the most of my friends, but doing well otherwise. I still have some other folks I should catch up with.
By the 20th, I noticed that the weather has gotten quite cold.
On the 23rd, I called Lettuce over to a park where I talked to him about serious things. Thankfully, we both came to an understanding of each other. We proceed to get some fun in by destroying some badminton rackets- err, I mean playing some badminton in the park. Then I treated him out to an Indian curry restaurant for dinner.
Plastic model-wise, I bought a number during my shopping spree. In addition to Gundam, I was enthusiastic about Kotobukiya’s new Hexa Gear line of models, so I purchased the entire first set. My conclusion though, is that I am not a fan of it, Hexa Gear isn’t for me. Nevertheless, I don’t regret trying it out. Building everything by the end of the month was a real pain though. The HG Gundam Astaroth Origin, on the other hand, was a pleasure to build.
