On Thursday, June 16th, I went to SF Japantown with a big group of friends. The purpose was to simply spend quality time together with them. If my plan for Japan proceeds smoothly, I won’t see most of them again for a long time. Joining me that day was GameMaster, Rafflima, Lettuce, another friend from high school (who I will refer to as GoodNeighbor), along with Xyrenth and Xyrenth’s sister.
Thank you to Rafflima, who drove us (me, GoodNeighbor and GameMaster) to SF Japantown. The rest of the group came in from different ways. During the ride, GameMaster showed me his nearly completed HG Gundam Crossbone Full Cloth. It looks good and really exemplifies GameMaster’s painting style. It is almost finished, with just the weapons left to paint.
We arrived at around 11 am, and waited underneath the Peace Pagoda for the rest of the group. Upon meeting up with everyone, our first destination was a restaurant for lunch.
Here we are at Izumiya, chatting while waiting for food. To introduce everyone, from left to right: GoodNeighbor, Xyrenth’s sister (hidden), GameMaster, Xyrenth, Lettuce.
From this angle: Xyrenth, Lettuce, Rafflima.
This group of people here is mainly connected through me, so each person has at least two other friends of mine that they haven’t met before.
Here are all of the food we ordered. Only the column in the middle did not get miso soup with their order. I did not touch mine and forgot about it until we are all done eating, so I quickly offered it to Lettuce. Ended up making him wait through the entire meal for that bowl of miso soup. By then, our utensils were already taken away, so he started using a straw to stir the soup and also slurped it up with said straw. Then he folded the straw in half as makeshift chopsticks to pick up the tofu…
After eating, we walked around the mall. GameMaster said that he never had Taiyaki before, so we stopped by a shop to get some. Afterwards, we went to the store with the arcade games.
Rafflima tried a quick game of hitting the Taiko drums.
Xyrenth couldn’t resist and bought this bunny plushie there.
We proceeded to another store, which sold Gundam models along with a bunch of plushies and other goods. I stood there talking about Gundams models and the series to Lettuce, and before I even realized it, everyone else left and were looking at the weapons store.
We also went to Kinokuniya. I only browsed around as I no longer buy books from Kinokuniya. Xyrenth found a store copy of PSO2’s EP.3 artbook, so I looked through that.
After Kinokuniya, we went to the small and clustered hobby store to check out their stuff. GameMaster bought a number of Cardfight Vanguard packs there. In the photo above, we all sat down around him as he opened them.
Apparently, GameMaster pulled a really rare and expensive card. Wow!
Having gone through most of the mall already, we went back outside to the plaza to take some group photos together. As I have mentioned before, if my plan for having a future in Japan succeeds, then it is possible that I won’t seeing these friends in person again for a long time, years even. I made sure to take plenty of photos.
Once that is done, we decided to briefly stroll through Daiso in the other mall. This other mall doesn’t have any stores, just some restaurants and hasn’t changed much at all. We finished up our time here in SF Japantown, said goodbye to some, and departed with Rafflima driving the same group of us back. During the ride, we made dumb jokes and conversations. I won’t write out the story, but one of the keywords was “garage”. Hehe.
