2016! I wanted this new year to start off good. Blog-wise, I put out some new posts and prevented them from joining the backlog of posts to type up. I really want to get into gear and clear my backlog so that I can focus on future and new content instead. Of course, working on my blog on top of the other gazillion things I need to work on is tough, but I intend on conquering them all.
As part of the gazillion things that I have to do, I went up to the city of Davis for a week starting on Monday the 4th. The purpose was to visit friends, paint some models, and see a professor for career advice. I stayed over at Blitz-X’s place where I slept on his couch with my sleeping bag. Of course, I took the opportunity to resume on painting my HMM Blade Liger and made a lot of progress. I also brought with me the HG Arios and 1/100 Kyrios, but I prioritized the Zoid. I chat with Blitz-X a lot, just seeing what he had been up to. His gunpla collection magnified since I was last here 6 months ago. Completely taking me by surprise, Blitz-X offered his Metal Build Exia Repair as a Christmas gift. Still speechless about it, but thanks!
On Wednesday evening, I met up with Xyrenth, GameMaster and Corvus. Our plan was to hang out over at Xyrenth’s apartment. After meeting up on campus, we had pizza for dinner in downtown before heading on over. It was really neat to see how Xyrenth’s room looks like. It wasn’t too crowded with the four of us. Throughout the night, we chat about random things and made stupid jokes. Xyrenth had a bunch of swords, both foam toys and metal katanas. We messed around with them, showing Xyrenth how to properly draw and sheath a katana. GameMaster won’t stop poking Corvus in the crotch with the foam swords. At some point, we somehow ended up arm wrestling each other. Corvus VS GameMaster, and me VS Xyrenth. I tied with Xyrenth, and they tied as well for the most part. A little later, we were hungry and cooked some instant noodles while playing with GameMaster’s HG Graze and HG Gundam Barbatos. I really like its design! I also spent some time taking apart Xyrenth’s models for tightening. Her HG Harute in particular, I put in some special effort into coloring the clear parts. Meanwhile, Corvus tried to log into his PSO2 account but could not remember the account info. We continued trying and also password reset but no luck. The funniest thing of that night was, without a doubt, Xyrenth’s air humping bunny speaker set. Enough said. Since Corvus couldn’t get into PSO2, we continued to chat until around 3 am and then we went to sleep. All of us found somewhere to lie down in Xyrenth’s room, except for GameMaster who lived next door so he went back to his place to sleep.
On the other days, I focused on painting my HMM Blade Liger, and went out to eat now and then with friends. My original plan was to stay until Saturday the 9th, but due to some circumstances I stayed until Monday the 11th. Since I had extra time, I went over to Xyrenth’s place on Saturday to marathon all 7 episodes of Gundam Unicorn, while providing her some background info before each episode. Xyrenth really really liked it, so I am glad. On Sunday, I visited the plamo club, and as usual, things that stabs my heart were said. It was nice seeing people again, I guess? After the club, I joined Xyrenth and GameMaster in securing the random box of HG Transient Gundam over at a local comic book store, and then ate dinner together. That was the last day of my visit and I had a lot of fun overall.
Xyrenth opened up her new HG Transient Gundam and begun building it on the night of the 16th. I worked on my HG Arios as the same time as we chat with GameMaster. Xyreth haven’t watched any Build Fighters yet, but she really liked Transient’s design. She finished the entire body with all the limbs that night, while the weapons were built another day.
In Halo 5, I have been in a losing streak for a while. I asked my little brother to watch me play and serve as an operator. While the matches were still tough, I won with his help. From the REQ packs, I got quite a bit of visors that day. On other days, when I played by myself, I returned to the losing streak. It appears that I can’t win without my brother.
Halo wasn’t the only game I had a losing streak in. In PSO2, I played the new Tower Defense 終焉 emergency quest with Xyrenth. Our first time was really easy; all we did was collect crystals and our bases were barely damaged. After that, we continued to fail the mission over and over for the next few days. We finally won (barely) once we guarded the bases with our lives, sought out the Darker AIS, and called out enemy spawns. Now, our chances of beating that emergency mission is about 50/50.
Around the end of this month starting on the 22nd, I started to engage my backlog of stuff. I resumed on reading Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai. I was on vol. 14 and finished that volume by the end of this month. And I finally got around to the last few episodes of Amagami SS+ Plus. For games, I dived into SAO: Lost Song and chose that this will be my current main game to play and beat on the PSV. I also booted up the bishoujo game, Futsuu no Fantasy, and played for a bit.
Modeling-wise, I built the HG Arios throughout the month and I am almost done as you can see above. I built my HG Full Armor Unicorn with my brother while he was building his RG Astray Red Frame. I finished the 3 shields on the FA Unicorn. Next, I am going to work on the bazookas. Speaking of stuff I did throughout the month, I made a bit of progress on my secret project. Did some sketching and close to completing the design of one character.
The 27th was the release of PSO2’s Reborn: Episode 4 update. You can read about my impressions of it at this blog post. At the end of this month, I finally made our team in PSO2. The name that I decided upon was -ファンタジー・リンクス- (Phantasy Links). It is this game that is keeping us connected and communicating, so I wanted our team name to reflect that.
During my visit to Davis, I received advice on utilizing Google Calendar to organize my time and be more efficient. I started to use it and it was neat, but I begun to forget to schedule my days as time went by. Speaking of calendars, 2016 is the first year since 2011 for me to not purchase a anime calendar.
For the first month of 2016, I watched:
- Gundam: Tekketsu no Orphans (ep.4-8)
- Cardfight!! Vanguard (ep.24-44)
- Amagamai SS+ Plus (finished)
- Rinne no Lagrange (ep.9)
- One Piece (ep.628-632)
- Phantasy Star Online 2 The Animation (started)
- Hacka Doll The Animation (ep.3 & 4)
- Shinmai Maou no Testament (on vol.2)
- Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai (finished vol.14)
