There is no single word that could accurately describe all my experiences in August. Reflecting back, my feelings are largely negative. I do think that being exposed to those experiences were important and there were good experiences as well. However, that doesn’t change the situation that I was unhappy with.
Last month, you saw the Japanese room that I was staying in. After 2 weeks or so, I cannot no longer sleep sanely in that room. The heat and bugs became intolerable. Instead, I grabbed my pillow and sheet, and then slept on cushions in the living room where there was an air conditioner.
Listed below is essentially my daily schedule of work (which by the way, doesn’t build muscles, it just kills your back).
- 5 to 6 days a week
- Start anytime from 6am to 9am
- 3 to 5 hours in the morning
- 1 to 3 hours in the afternoon
- Drenched in sweat and dirt
Whenever I have free time, either after work or on my days off, I usually just stayed indoor playing games. On the PSV, I had bought a bunch of games but I played mostly:
I also played the eroge, Dracu-Riot, night after night as much as possible. I bought Dracu-Riot 2 years ago in Kyoto and never went pass where the trial ended. This month was finally the time to play it and I reached all the way to the ending chapter for Miu.
During my shopping trips, I bought a lot of things every time. To be honest, I don’t like buying so much at once. I’d prefer to have the luxury of buying a few things casually over time, rather than hardcore shopping.
- The more I buy, the more I had to carry
- Costs over ￥1000 just for a one-way trip to Nagoya
- It takes over an hour to get to Nagoya
- No time to think through, resulting in impulse buys
In mid-August, I visited a game center in Nishio for some nostalgic moments of Gundam Senjou no Kizuna. I had fun playing a few matches and I even tried out a game called Steel Chronicle Victroopers. Afterwards, I found a store called Fammy’s Takara Souko (meaning “treasure warehouse”). Immediately, I realized that I had wasted time and money going to Nagoya. I really wished that I had found this store sooner. Besides my shopping sprees, I had the opportunity for these events:
- Phantasy Star Online 2 Kanshasai 2014
- Okazaki City Summer Fireworks
When time passed to around the 3 week of August, I started to question my purpose and reason for being in Japan. I came here to make friends. Failed. I came here to buy things. Buy what? I told myself that manga was my focus but then it became a hassle of searching and not knowing what is interesting. And once I buy all the stuff, then what?
I never thought I would say this, but I wanted to leave Japan and go home. I wanted sleep in my comfy bed, stay in a room with an AC, play games with my friends, eat homemade food, to watch anime on a decent screen and the list goes on. But my time is not up, I still have a few weeks of work left.
